One of the unique things about learning is how personal it can become. You may discover things about your nose and your health that you’ve never considered before. Before that journey begins, I’d like to offer some context about my work. I have had the privilege of contributing to the development and advancement of 4-phase rhinomanometry and had the honor of working with the late Dr. Klaus H. Vogt, the Father of Computerized 4-Phase Rhinomanometry, to carry forward his legacy. My aim is not to emphasize titles, but to translate airway science and the neuro-respiratory complex into clear, practical insights that can genuinely improve daily life and clinical practice.

Did you know that we have more than 60 nasal functions that impact our health? My mission is to help others understand nasal function and resistance as meaningful biomarkers and to illuminate their vital roles in health, craniofacial development, sleep, neural pathways and messaging to the brain, and overall well-being. Whether you are here to explore nasal function as the “Fifth Vital Sign,” learn about the benefits of nasal function, or find guidance for managing congestion and resistance, you are in the right place. I am honored to guide you.

Welcome to The Airway Corner

As an airway clinical nurse specialist and advanced practice nurse, Dr. Karen is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of airway health so clinicians can better support their patients’ well-being. She provides patient care both in-office and remotely, lectures nationally, consults with medical companies, and evaluates products designed to enhance airway resistance and respiratory function. Alongside her clinical and consulting work, she mentors healthcare professionals in launching and growing online courses and private practices, helping them broaden their impact with confidence and clarity.

Dr. Karen’s deepest “why” is her son, Zach, who overcame the challenges of airway dysfunction to graduate high school with honors and continue on as a collegiate baseball player. His journey inspires her commitment to advancing airway science, supporting clinicians, and advocating for healthier futures for children and adults alike. Through her resources, training, and ongoing work, she strives to strengthen clinical practice and elevate the landscape of airway care, one patient and one provider at a time.

Podcast

Welcome to The Let’s Get Nosey Podcast, the show where the airway isn’t an afterthought, it’s the starting point for understanding health, sleep, performance, and the brain.

After more than 35 years as a licensed provider, nearly two decades as a military flight nurse, and a career spanning critical care, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and airway diagnostics, I’ve learned one thing:

If you want to understand the body, you start with the nose.

Each episode, we dive deep into the science of nasal function, resistance, breathing mechanics, neuro-respiratory pathways, and why the nose is one of the most overlooked diagnostic organs in medicine and dentistry. You’ll get evidence-based insights, clinical pearls, practical strategies, and conversations that challenge outdated thinking.

So if you’re ready to rethink breathing, rethink sleep, and rethink what you thought you knew about airway health…
